How to link a number, what the states mean and how to reconnect.

Connect a line

A line is a WhatsApp number linked to your inbox. You connect it by scanning a QR code from the phone that owns that number, the way WhatsApp Web works.

  1. 1Go to Settings → WhatsApp lines and create a new line.
  2. 2Wait for the QR code to appear.
  3. 3On the phone, open WhatsApp → Linked devices → Link a device.
  4. 4Scan the code. The line becomes connected and starts receiving messages.

Connection states

A line reports where it is in the process.

  • Pending — the line exists but has not started connecting.
  • QR required — a code is waiting for you to scan it.
  • Connecting — the code was scanned and the session is being established.
  • Connected — working and receiving messages.
  • Disconnected — the session dropped. It usually reconnects on its own; if not, scan again.
  • Failed — the connection could not be established.
  • Logged out — it was unlinked from the phone. Requires scanning again.

How many lines you can connect

The number of lines depends on your plan: Xat Start includes one, Growth up to ten and Business up to thirty. A line occupies its slot while it exists, connected or not; archiving it frees the slot.
